American Red Cross Aids Seven After Carthage Fire

WATERTOWN, NY (January 18, 2017) - Volunteers from the North Country
Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to
seven people after a fire Wednesday afternoon on Budd Street in Carthage,
    Jefferson County.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance to two families for necessities
such as shelter, food and clothing. The first family consisted of two adults and
a 3 year old child. In the second family, there were two adults, an 8 year old,
and a teenager. Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits
containing personal care items and stuffed animals for the children. In the
coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those
affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.

In 2016, the Red Cross responded to more than 400 home fires and other
disasters in the 24-county Eastern New York Region. Red Cross staff and
volunteers provided assistance, care and comfort to more than 2,000 local
    residents last year.

All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge and made possible by the
generosity of the public. To donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief and help
