Lewis County- This weekend marks the last weekend in July, yes by next Saturday it will already be August 1st! Summertime always seems to go by so quickly, especially with all the activities to do. It looks to be a great weekend to get out and enjoy some summer weather with high temperatures forecast in the mid to upper 70s with just a chance of showers throughout the weekend. The following are some of the events we found if you are looking for something to do! 195th Annual Lewis County Fair: Friday, July 24 & Saturday, July 25- Free Gate Admission! Friday Night features Canaan Smith in concert at the grandstand at 8 PM, with the Patti Stanford Band opening at 7 PM. Tickets $25- Trackside $20- Grandstand. Saturday features the Demolition Derby with runs at 1 PM and 6 PM. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children and includes both shows. For a full schedule of weekend events visit lewiscountyfair.org/daily-schedule 5th Annual Benefit Fishing Derby on the Black River Saturday, July 25- 6 AM to 3 PM, Mud Puppy Bait Shop, 6732 Pine Grove Road, To benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Saturday, July 25- 12 PM until gone at Myers Towpath Inn, 4217 West Turin Road in Turin. Chicken BBQ Platters -$8, includes chicken quarter, baked beans and a dinner roll. Entertainment by "Rose Red" 12 PM - 4 PM. All proceeds benefit Cystic Fibrosis in honor of Garret Miller. Special Appearance from Santa. Highmarket Wheelers 50/50 raffle with drawing at 4 PM. Call (315)348-8122 to reserve platters. Historical Tour: Saturday, July 25- Town of Diana Historical Museum, 2 Depot Street in Harrisville, 10 AM - 12PM, with suggested arrival at 9:45 AM. Free refreshments following the tour Copenhagen Firemen's Field Days: Saturday, July 25- 12 PM - Midnight at 9950 NYS Route 12 in Copenhagen. Parade at 7 PM, DJ from 7:30 PM on, Clams, Chowder, Food and Legal Beverages. NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers Association Festival: Friday July 24, Saturday July 25 & Sunday July 26- 1121 Comins Road in Osceola. The New York State Old Tyme Fiddler's Association is presenting an old tyme fiddle festival which will feature the Queens of NYS Old Time Fiddling. The three featured ladies include: Hope Grietzer, Gretchen Banaszak, and Jackie Hobbs. Hope and Jackie are NYS Inductees to the Fiddler's Hall of Fame and Museum and Gretchen is the wife of fellow inductee Phil Banaszak. The event kicks off Friday evening at 6pm with FREE workshops for fiddlers, guitar and piano. People who have never tried fiddle may try as well. 7pm there will be a FREE campfire jam session. Saturday morning will feature more in depth fiddle workshops for beginner, intermediate and advanced fiddlers. This will be from 9-12:30 and will cost $30 for NYSOTFA members or $40 for non members. The festival kicks off at 1pm (donation $8) with a performance by the Queens, followed by youth show and then open mic. The evening has another featured artist show at 7pm followed by a round and square dance. Sunday there will be a coffee hour at 9am followed by a free gospel hour at 10am. The gate opens at 12:30. There will be an $8 donation. The Queens will present two concerts and there will be open mic. 4pm will feature the induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame followed by a Show of Inductees. Proceeds benefit Henry Bush who has been diagnosed with lung cancer, to help alleviate medical and transportation expenses. Jerked Pork Dinner, 11 AM- Includes Eddies Jerked Pork, Macaroni Salad, Baked Beans, Dinner Roll and Desert. Cost is $10. Live auction at 1 PM. Lottery Board raffle, tickets $1 each or 15 for $10. Lake Bonaparte Fishing Derby: Saturday, July 25- Annual Poncho Young Fishing Derby - The annual fishing derby will be run by Don Young and Rich Sindicich,and will be open to all residents, guests, friends, grandchildren who are under the age of 18. Richard Sindicich & Don Young will be the official weight and measure crew. The weigh- in location is 14149 Hotel Road - EAST SHORE. From the lake, the boat house has a sun deck on top and it will be clearly marked with a banner and colorful flag. From the road, look for a sign. Fish will be accepted from 10 AM until 3 PM The Awards Ceremony will begin at 4 PM along with a drawing of "door prizes". Light refreshments will be provided to participants.
