Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club Elects Board of Directors
06/29/15 12:15pm

Town of Diana - New members were elected to the Board of Directors at
the Annual Business Meeting of the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club
(LBCC), on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Glenn Johnson, of Richland Hills, TX
and Doris Pavlot, of Waterville, NY, were elected as new directors while
Tonya Young, of York, PA  was elected to her second term. All directors
serve a three year term on the board

According to their by-laws the objective of the LBCC is to promote the
proper use, protection, and maintenance of the ecosystem comprising the
lake and its surrounding wetlands and forested areas, as a high quality
natural resource for the benefit of both the property owners and the general
    public.

Lake Bonaparte is located on the western edge of the Adirondack Park in
northern Lewis County.  The lake is about 1286 acres with approximately
350 homes and cottages, where the people living and visiting the lake enjoy
the recreation opportunities. There are no homes and cottages on the
western side of the lake, where twenty-four miles of shoreline borders Fort
    Drum.

The lake is known for its fishing. Many species of fish can be found in Lake
Bonaparte, including Lake Trout, Walleye Pike, Great Northern Pike, Rock
Bass, Crappie, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Perch, Bullhead and Bluegill.

The lake was named after the Bonaparte family.  The brother of Napoleon
Bonaparte, Joseph, and his family are said to have escaped here from
Europe after his famous brother was arrested. According to the DEC
website, they hid at Green Pond in the rocky ledges and caves to avoid
    hired assassins.

Lake Bonaparte is truly a beautiful lake that everyone should take the
opportunity to enjoy!  The Bonaparte's Cave State Forest and the Sand Bay
State Forest are both accessible lands in the area open to the public to
    explore.
